Product Description

Omega-Oils (90 soft-gels; gelatin) is a complete spectrum essential oils formula that contains Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids derived from Fish Oil (50% Omega-3), Flaxseed Oil, Borage Seed Oil and Vitamin E (as d-alpha-Tocopherol).

Omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids can not be synthesized by the body and therefore must be obtained from one's diet. Omega-3 oils are found primarily in fish and Omega-6 oils are found primarily in grains.

Why are Omega-3's important?

Without enough Omega-3 fatty acids, the body will use saturated fats to construct cellular membranes which are as a result less elastic and pose greater problems to the heart. The heart needs elasticity to return to a normal resting rate. As a consequence, ingestion of omega-3's is believed to positively benefit heart health in this manner. In addition, Omega-3's (Alpha-Linolenic Acid) play a part in keeping cholesterol levels low as well as keeping blood pressure at a healthy level. One of the best sources of ALA is Flaxseed Oil. It is believed that Omega-3's have an influence on blood pressure because they reduce blood platelet aggregation. Platelet aggregation or "stickiness" can lead to stroke, blood clots and high blood pressure.

Another important activity of Omega-3's are their anti-inflammatory properties. EPA and DHA in particular are effective because they are converted into prostaglandins and leukotrienes (both modulate pain and inflammation). Omega-3 consumption may help reduce inflammation that causes joint stiffness, swelling and tenderness.

Lastly, Omega-3's may be helpful in modulating mood because they support the brain's ability to detect and correctly translate mood-related neurological signals. http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/1,1525,992,00.html

Why are Omega-6's important?

Omega-6's help nerve function and skin. Linoleic acids and Gamma Linoleic Acids act as anti-inflammatories as they are converted into prostaglandin. http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/1,1525,1037_HS,00.html
